We love this dive shop and had a great first experience! We also got an Advanced Nitrox Certification included for the price along with our regular Open Water Certification.Earlier this year, we became interested in getting SDI Open Water certified. Originally, we were looking at prices at different shops thinking, “Okay, $300 or $500 each is not bad”. The more I called around, the more I realized that the total expense of it was far more than shops listed. What initially drew me to SCUBA Adventures Plano is that when I called, they picked up the phone, and when I asked about brutally-honest price estimates for the whole thing, they were able to give them accurately. Other shops tried to downplay the overall cost, but SCUBA Adventures acknowledged that it’s an expensive, but worthwhile hobby – that won my trust!Overall, per person, we spent $495 on the course itself, $40 for two-day entry at the scuba ranch, $50 on tank refills for 6 dives (of which I only used 5), $30 in optional tips to our volunteer instructor, $20 for diving boots/socks from Amazon, $20 for a basic mask/snorkel set, and $80 for a set of fins. The complete, total cost of getting scuba certified here was $735, and it came with an additional Advanced Nitrox Certification Class. If money’s an issue, I definitely recommending asking for the complete cost, including the costs of personal gear and the trip to the SCUBA ranch. Our instructors were David and Bonnie. They were some of the friendliest, passionate, patient, but strict instructors that I could ever imagine getting. There were moments where they adapted the plan around some students’ health issues, and they made everyone feel welcome. If someone did something wrong, they would tell you the seriousness of your mistakes without making you feel bad about it. Bonnie made us some awesome snacks throughout the course and David even made us some delicious BBQ out at the SCUBA ranch! They didn’t have to do this; they just want to make the certification process fun! We couldn’t have had better instructors. We also found out this place does dive trips, so we’re now watching the Facebook Page for anything fun and in budget! Since we cheap’d out on some of the equipment initially, we’ll likely be in the market for some better gear soon now that we know we love diving!
