Frequently asked questions
Cocos Island is best suited for advanced divers due to strong currents and the depth of some dive sites. Divers should have experience with drift diving and be comfortable managing currents. A minimum of 50 logged dives and an Advanced Open Water certification is recommended.
Cocos Island is famous for its hammerhead shark schools, tiger sharks, whale sharks, and Galápagos sharks. Other highlights include manta rays, dolphins, turtles, and vibrant coral reefs teeming with tropical fish like jacks and snappers.
You’ll need a full dive kit, including a 5-7mm wetsuit, gloves, a dive computer, and a DSMB (Delayed Surface Marker Buoy). Rental gear is available onboard, but it’s best to bring your own if possible. Nitrox certification is highly recommended to extend your bottom time.
Yes, the following fees apply:
- Cocos Island Park Fee: $490 for a 10-night trip
- Emergency Evacuation Fee: $30
- Nitrox (optional): $150 for unlimited use during the trip
These fees are payable onboard and are subject to Costa Rican VAT tax.
All guests should fly into and out of San Jose, Costa Rica (SJO – Juan Santamaria International Airport). A one-night stay in San Jose is required before the trip to meet the transfer to Puntarenas, where the Cocos Island Aggressor departs. Transfers back to San Jose are provided at the end of the trip.
